What to expect

The exam in 4 activities

The OQLF exam is free, lasts about 3 h 30 and takes place in person in Montréal. You analyze a professional situation together with other candidates from your profession.

1. Reading

You read a shared context and a personal information sheet, and you take notes.

2. Group discussion

You share the information from your sheet in your own words, ask questions, then you look for solutions together. Active participation is mandatory.

3. Writing

You write a text of about 150 or 200 words, depending on your profession, to present a solution or recommendations.

4. Interview

The evaluator plays a character from the case and gives you new facts. You explain what you recommend.

You must pass all 4 activities to obtain the certificate. All the details, including the length of each activity, are in the official OQLF guide (in French).

Who will guide you

A nurse who knows the exam situations

This preparation is independent of the OQLF.

Frequently asked questions

Does this preparation guarantee that I will pass?

No. No serious preparation can guarantee it. It gives you a method, practice and precise feedback so you arrive at the exam better prepared.

Are the practice cases the ones from the exam?

No. They are original cases inspired by the healthcare field, built on the same structure as the exam: a shared context, an individual sheet, a discussion, a text and an interview.

How is the exam graded?

The oral and written parts are assessed separately, on 6 levels. Levels 1 to 3 count as a pass. Results arrive within 10 business days with feedback, and if you fail you must wait 3 months before retaking the full exam.
